Here’s a prediction: Your cell phone will be obsolete soon.

That’s why I have a broken phone and I’m slow to replace it. (Although I will still probably need to.) The Apple watch plus AirPods will soon be accompanied by Apple Glasses…and that will change everything. Your lenses will become your screen, VR will integrate into your view of the real world, and carrying a phone in your pocket will seem archaic.

Why do I go there? To prepare…

The breakneck speed of technological change is only going to accelerate. So what do we do? How to we prepare?

Amid paralyzing complexity, we keep our questions few and simple:

  1. Will this tool help me stay connected to God?
  2. Will this tool help me serve and connect with others?
  3. At what point does the tool distract from the above, thus when do I turn it off?

We’re going to need to ask these questions more and more, so we might as well be asking them now.

Graeme Cowgill and I are working on an online course to address technology management in the home. Stay tuned for that.

For now, ask the three questions above about the tech you have, presently. Be courageous in your decision-making.
