The Tim Ferriss podcast is a regular for me. Tim has interviewed Kevin Kelly at least once. On one occassion, Kevin talked about “designer babies,” and how genetic engineering is increasing and parents will be able to tweak genetics more and more in the future.

That’s a concerning and complex issue, but let’s not debate it here. I want to focus on something profound that followed his “designer babies” comment.

Kevin offered that even if parents can manipulate genetics, environment is at least as important—probably more. Science might be able to turn the dial on intelligence, but environmental experience will shape children even more.

Think about it. You had the raw materials, but someone cultivated your passions. Someone taught you study skills. An actual human sparked that interested with their own passion. An environment nurtured your development.

So, if you were raising you, what experiences and learnings would you have wished for yourself at an earlier age? What experiences and learnings can you still offer yourself?

If you have kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews, list them each by name and write down unique learnings, lessons, experiences that you hope for them. How do you bring this school of life to reality?
