I need to say words about things I feel.

Have I mentioned that I see a counselor? In fact, I’ve seen multiple therapists in different contexts and seasons. Not because I’m a therapy junky. It’s the opposite.

The truth is that, for someone who’s pretty articulate, I’m terrible at communicating my emotions. They have been linked with shoulds and should nots. They have been connected to weakness and failure. So… I need help. I need to be forced, in a sense, to say words out loud. But here’s something really critical that I’ve learned:

If we don’t EXPRESS, we get DEPRESSED.

Also,

The inverse of depression (the verb), is expression. When we push emotions down and don’t talk and let them out, we’re literally depressing ourselves. And we can’t think our way out of a state that we’ve depressed ourselves into. We’ve just got to say the words.

Oh, and I’d recommend doing so in a trusted relationship or with a therapist.

Express it.
