There was a misunderstanding I overheard recently. One person was really mad. The other was unaware of the infraction. Then, the others were trying to go-between.
A lot of our people-troubles are misunderstandings.
- They misunderstood what we meant.
- They misunderstood what we care about.
- Or we did the same to them.
Some will say, “if you can be there, that’d be great,” but what they meant was, “I desperately need you.” We mean different things, though we say the same words. We have different expectations, though we communicate the same instructions.
People are rarely trying to disappoint you.
Let’s be as clear as possible. And then full of grace for the space between us.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2
