Last Monday night, Drew Brees set the record for the most passing yards for a quarterback in NFL history. In the football world, it’s a big deal. What’s a bigger deal is the moment he had on the field with his family on national TV.

After completing the pass (for a touchdown) that would break the record, the game stopped and everyone honored this rare feat. The fans in New Orleans roared with admiration. Drew’s team, the Saints, cheered and hugged him esteemed QB. Even the opposing team stopped and congratulated Drew for his accomplishment. It was a great sports moment.

It got better when Drew’s wife and kids walked on the field and gave their dad a hug. The mics were live and caught the audio of the exchange.

Drew told his kids he loved them, multiple times. Then he said, “You can accomplish anything in your life if you’re willing to work for it.”

Drew is 6-feet tall, at best. His success story is an unlikely one of overcoming his size and stature to become one of best quarterbacks of all-time. The dude put in the work.

Inspired by Drew, I’ve starting saying the same thing to my kids. One day, I’ll clarify that there are probably some things they can’t do. (I don’t imagine Jack would make a very good horse jockey if he ends up being 6’6”.) But, if there’s a desire in your heart, and commitment to put in the work, almost anything is possible.

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”  -Psalm 37:4

Yes, God gives… and you’re also going to have work your butt off for it. It’s just how God’s designed the universe.
