Do you have a few?

Hilary and I recently did a weekend Marriage Intensive (and it was intense!). My longest friend—going back to middle school—was doing this weekend intensive with his wife and invited us along. I was hesitant, because any and everything can come up at a “marriage intensive.” But we did it… and we loved it.

But you don’t want to do a marriage intensive with casual friends or strangers. It’s deep, painful, and healing all at once. You cover the past, the present, and dreams for the future. You only want to wade into those waters with people you know and trust. It’s almost like having a TEAM for your life. People you walk with… who do battle with you… who have your back… who you can trust to keep your best interests in mind.

These friends can be hard to come by. When you find them, honor them, keep them, encourage them! I have a handful of these guys, and I’m grateful that they’ve rallied with me in this season of transition. (Your “few” will rally when you need them most.)

Which brings us to Nehemiah, obviously…

“I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem.” -Nehemiah 2:12

Who do you dream with? Who goes with you to look and see? Who do you trust before you tell the rest?

If you have “your few,” shoot them a text of gratitude. If you don’t, start praying that God would bring them. And make sure YOU are such a friend. If you are, they’ll find you.

Forward this post to your few. Encourage them to read CHEWABLES along with you so you can consistently talk about stuff that matters.
