You might have an edge in your voice and not know it.
Be careful what you say and protect your life. A careless talker destroys himself. Proverbs 13:3
I just overheard my son, Jack, tell his cousin, “sometimes my dad talks mean to me.”
What the crap?! I work so hard to speak with grace, kindness, and intention to my kids. And, most of the time, I really do.
The problem is, because I’m usually consistent about speaking in an uplifting way, when I don’t, it is noticed.
Now, none of us are perfect. But I have realized that when my voice has an edge, I’m usually the last to know. The people closest to me feel it first. And tell their cousins.
Join me in paying a little better to attention to what we say, and how we say it. Especially in those moments of frustration when our guards (and energy) are down.
