Make your own day by making someone else’s.

“You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)

A mystery man in front of me just handed the coffeeshop cashier a $100 for a $12 tab. “Keep it. Use it for the people behind me,” he whispered. Then, he walked over and stood to the side, watching out of the corner of his eye as the next 9-10 people smiled with delight and surprise.

I was the only one who knew it was him, but I didn’t say anything. It seemed like his joy came from the anonymity of the blessing.

And it made me think, what could I do with a one hundred dollar bill that would surprise and bless people without drawing attention to myself? Here are some ideas:

  • Do the coffeeshop pay-it-forward thing
  • Buy a bunch of toys and drop them off in a low-income neighborhood
  • Pay for several people’s co-pays at the pediatrician
  • Buy a spa day for a single mom
  • Buy food truck lunches for construction/landscape workers
  • Buy dinner for the honeymooning couple
  • Pay for babysitting so the young couple can get away

If you have a $100 in your wallet, take it out and consider the possibilities.
