Right now, someone is grieving a terrible loss and someone else is celebrating their happiest day. Both are sacred.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…” Ecclesiastes 3:1

As I sat working in a hotel lobby today, I saw parades of different people marking two very different occasions.

One group was clearly dressed for a funeral. Loss was on their faces. Sadness was in their voices.

The next group was clearly at this hotel for a wedding celebration. The outfits were aligned and the faces were beaming.

Death and newness. Both. Right in front of me.

It would serve us well to attend both a wedding and a funeral every so often. They both help us remember about life, death, and the people that mean the most to us.

If you’re in a wedding kind of season, remember, loss is part of life. And you’ll feel the sting sooner or later. Enjoy today! Be grateful. And be compassionate for the loss of others.

If you’re in a funeral kind of season, take heart. A party is on its way.
