Do something that reflects well on Jesus.

Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John (though Jesus himself didn’t baptize them—his disciples did). John 4:1-2

His disciples did the baptizing. Jesus has been letting his followers do the work for 2,000 years. And I’m grateful for that. Because I’ve discovered that I’m most fulfilled when I’m using my gifts for the greater good and in alignment with the larger mission.

I heard someone compliment a singer who sang an amazing song in church.

Complimenter: “Wow. You are incredible! Thanks for singing for us today.”

Singer: “No. It’s not me. It’s God.”

Complimenter: “Well, you weren’t that good.”

Some people deflect praise in false humility. No, it was you singing. Say thank you and hope that God was honored.

When we do what we were designed to do—and walk the path he gives us to walk—we’re doing God’s work on earth. And, hopefully, we are a good, though imperfect, reflection of our Good God.
