Living water means experiencing eternal fulfillment now.

Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:13-14

People like to talk about heaven like it’s far away — probably because we’ve lost loved ones who feel far away. Or because our experience of earth has been so painful, we need to think heaven is far from this place of hurt and pain.

But Jesus talked more about “eternal life.” And he talked about it as if it was accessible, now.

Eternal life, like its…
The quenching of inner thirst
Knowing Jesus, personally
Forgiveness and joy

The “wells” I’ve gone to on my own never give me the “bubbling spring within” feeling. They produce more of a dulling regret sensation.

“Jesus, I want your living water.” Not a bad place to start your day. And not a bad prayer to pray in this, eternal, moment.
