What if you took a gap month?

Every seventh year we will forgo working the land and will cancel all debts. Nehemiah 10:31

Even the ground needs a break.

Pay attention to seasons and natural laws of the universe. God speaks through his design. We get frustrated that the thing isn’t producing, but maybe it’s the seventh year… or maybe it’s the wrong climate… or perhaps it’s not its season.

If you’re in a season of stagnation, you might need a transition. If you’re in a season of transition, pay extra attention.

Season of transitions are for reflection, refocus, and re-evaluation. Do you need a “seventh year” of rest, reflection, and refocus? You might not be able to afford a gap year, but what about a gap month?

Ironically, my transition from the thing I was leading came during the seventh year. It came in a broken, human, error-filled way, but that doesn’t mean that there wasn’t some divine design behind it.

Now, for me, it’s a struggle to wait, listen, and not be productive—if you can’t tell. However, in my own way, I’m trying. I’m creating space, building in time to listen, adjust, shift, adapt… Even though I’ve been active, this has been a “gap year,” of sorts. Adding value, growing, and listening for new direction was the goal. And now, perhaps, God will make new paths and illuminate what fruit should be produced in the season in front of me.

What about you? Do you need a short break to listen, reflect, and refocus? It’s more doable than you think.
