Wait in the wings before you spread your wings.

Elisha is asking his mentor, Elijah for a spiritual blessing. Basically, “Pray for me that I’d follow in your footsteps and go even further!”

When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. 2 Kings 2:9

The mentor replies that it’s not for him to decide, but God might allow it. And from then on, the student became the teacher. He went on to do similar miracles, teach similar wisdom, and carry the torch as a messenger of God.

But Elisha had to want it, wait for it, and walk it out.

Some of us are intimidated by the works of the previous generation, and we don’t think we can contribute as much. Others of us are prideful and impatient, and want the spotlight now.

Instead,

1. Walk humbly in the shadow of those doing important things.
2. Want to embrace the burden of service.
3. Wait for the path and the power from God.

Oh, and the path often starts DOWNWARD. And the power usually comes through PAIN.
