Sometimes, small is better than big.
The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” Judges 7:7
God, through Gideon, used these 300 men to defeat tens of thousands. You might want to believe that stories like this are fable or fiction—which is fine. But ask yourself, don’t stories like this still happen? I still hear about them. And I want to live one.
Most people don’t do the dream because they’re afraid of starting small. But “small” invites God to show up and his divine power ignites our diligent plans… and something special results.
I led a church that grew from 200 to 2,000 in a short period of time. Then, painful political and circumstantial issues put an end to our run. My wife and I had a decision to make:
A) Start a church next door and create a church split and even more confusion and pain.
Or…
B) Start from scratch and do the dream.
We chose the dream.
It’s hard, and scary, and… it starts small. Like, 20 people show up to the thing instead of 2,000. But, when you’re creating something new, unproven, and risky, it has to start small.
If you think you’re hearing God’s voice and its telling you to start and start small, go boldly into the fight of your life. You’re living a good story.
There’s a process. A path. And that usually means:
* Slower than I want
* Smaller than I prefer
* Struggles I don’t like
But this how great stories become great stories. Let’s live a great story.
