“This was written.”

That’s what my favorite South African friend told me recently. He was referring to challenging events in both our lives.

“This was already written. God knew this day was coming before there were any days.”

“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” -Psalm 139:16

Of course, we still have decisions to make, doors to open, opportunities to embrace, pitfalls to avoid… But, mysteriously, God is outside of space and time and He sees it all at once. Past, present, future. And He knows who we are and what we choose.

So, when Spirit whispers to your soul, “I know the plans I have for you…and they’re good.” You can have confidence in that. It is written.

When the all-knowing, always-present Spirit comforts you with a sense of “this too shall pass; keep focused on the prize…” you can trust; and you can let yourself fall into hope, knowing that this good God works all things for good.

The pain—it was written. He knew this part of the story would happen.

The progress—it’s coming through this pain.

“There’s always darkness before the dawn. There’s always pain before the child is born.”

It was written. And the best parts are still coming. Keep writing.
