(Reflections on Psalm 23, cont’d)

When you’re starved and struggling, God is preparing your feast.

You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. Psalm 23:5

When enemies surround us, the circumstances are not ideal. Something has gone wrong. Maybe you had a misstep; maybe someone betrayed you; maybe you’re on the gossip circuit; maybe the conditions changed and you are now vulnerable…

When enemies surround you, it can feel like you’re the outsider; the forgotten; or the left behind. But… even in your dark moments, while you’re clinging to hope of redemption, God is preparing the next feast. You are not forgotten or abandoned. He is not done with you yet. In fact, there’s a tasty buffet being lined up, just in the other room. You can’t see it yet, but can you smell it? It’s coming. God has good in store for you. Don’t lose hope or give up.

They seem like enemies now, but the tables are about to turn.
