(Reflections on Psalm 23, cont’d)

The darker things get, the closer God seems.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Psalm 23:4

You know if you’ve been in a room or space that is exceedingly dark that it can be difficult to see your hand in front of your face. The further the image, the more dim and mysterious it is. God uses mystery and darkness to tune our senses. We are forced to feel his presence even when it’s too dark to see — and the feeling is that of close proximity. We realize that he’s been here all along, we just didn’t notice.

Take advantage of your dark valley and feel the God who is “close beside” you. You don’t have to be afraid.
