Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Thessalonians 5:16-17

To tell you the truth, I don’t “pray continually.” But I think I’m on the journey of getting closer.

When I say “pray” I think about it very broadly. I used to confine prayer to closed eyes and clasped hands. That’s starter prayer.

Advanced prayer is when being with God becomes like your breathing. You’re not constantly saying words or asking for things, you’re simply aware. More and more aware, throughout your day, in every way.

And the only way I know to practice being aware of God’s presence—and your ongoing connecting to God—is by starting in the morning. When you start the day connected, you’re more likely to stay connected.
