Playing in the grass—or nature—is always good for the soul.

Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds… Psalm 148:7-10

Yesterday, I spent an hour in the park with my kids. It ended with one kid leaving by themselves and another crying about a ball that wasn’t shared, but the first 40 minutes were glorious. There’s something about being outside with your feet in the grass that is restorative and energizing. There’s a connection, a calming, even a cosmic celebration, of sorts. The lyrics from the ancient song above remind us that creation is always singing.

So playing in grassy parks, oceans, and on mountains does something to tune us into the music. Sitting in buildings, cars, and at desks has a way of muting the chorus. Let’s pay attention to the song being sung just outside the window.
