“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4

You might need a little sadness in your life.

This is one of those points where discernment is required. If you’re sad all the time and cry at the drop of a hat, this post isn’t for you. This post is for you, however, if you’ve been steady, strong, and focused on moving forward. If you’ve turned the page, yet have lingering emotions below the surface. If people that love you have asked if you’re okay, because you seem unfazed by the circumstances.

Personally, I tend to try and work out difficult things in my head—processing internally before processing out loud. I have grace (and low expectations) for people, plus a lot of optimism about my own life, so I can move forward from pain fairly quickly. But, at times, my weakness is sadness.

Sometimes I skip the sadness. But I shouldn’t… we shouldn’t.

Blessed are those who mourn. Cleansed by water from our eyes… purified by an “emotional baptism”… renewed by a heart that breaks and is held in the healing hands of our comforting God.

By all means, let’s move forward. AND, let’s remember that a little bit of sadness is part of the journey.
