Do the right thing, even when it’s weird.

Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” John 4:7,9

Not only would Jews not associate with Samaritans, but men wouldn’t speak with strange women. Then, add onto that, putting himself in a position of neediness with someone his culture believed to be FAR below him socially.

Jesus was not afraid to break cultural norms or offend people’s assumptions and standards. Jesus regularly busted through social barriers for the sake of individual humans. This was one of those times.

Is there a category that you’re putting someone into that elevates you and makes them less? Usually when we say, “different,” that is code for “less than.”
